The 5 Professional New Year's Resolutions I Made This Year

I enjoy viewing the New Year as an opportunity to make changes in my life over the course of the year. This year, I decided to focus on my professional development. Since leaving the corporate retail pharmacy world in 2017, I have had success in independent pharmacy management and business development consulting. I would like to expand on that and continue to make my voice heard in the pharmacy industry. Here are my 4 resolutions to help reach my professional goals.

Have a “side hustle”

One of my biggest professional goals this year is to have some kind of "side hustle" that makes money. I believe in having multiple sources of income. You never know what can happen so it's good to have different ways to make money. Whether that's some kind of writing gig, teaching online classes, or monetizing my social media - I definitely want to make something happen this year!

Get NY pharmacist license

This year I will be moving from California to New York, so it's time to get my pharmacist license there.  Eventually I would like to expand my consulting business to NY as well, but I definitely need to practice there first and learn the state’s pharmacy regulations. I would like to get licensed and land a part-time job as a pharmacist in an independent pharmacy some time in the first half of the year.

Become active in pharmacist associations

I love being a pharmacist and one of my passions is advancing the profession. Currently, I do that by precepting pharmacy students. However, I would like to get more involved in associations so I can learn more about lobbying and setting policy. I would also like to find a black pharmacist association, and see how I can help in increasing diversity within the pharmacy industry.

Finding time to read more is a big priority this year. Knowing more about the pharmacy industry and keeping on top of current events is important as a consultant. I plan to subscribe to more pharmacy publications, read books about the industry and leadership. Becoming more knowledgeable is always a plus.

Stay consistent on social media, including LinkedIn

Staying consistent on social media has been a huge struggle for me in the past. I like connecting with other pharmacists but I always had a hard time finding time to post and use social media effectively. This year, I definitely want to consistently engage on social media and write blogs. I also want to become more active on LinkedIn, where I can connect with more pharmacy professionals, companies and organizations.

I’ll be monitoring my progress on these goals, so follow along to see how I do. Do you have any personal or professional resolutions this year?
