Why You Should and How to Make Your Own Granola
/Granola is a crunchy, tasty treat that usually comes with with things like yogurt or acai bowls. It can be sweet with a lot of different things mixed in. A lot of store bought granolas have added sugars and ingredients like sweetened dried fruits or chocolate.
I like to make my own granola so I can control the amount of sugar in it. I sweeten mine with just a tablespoon of pure maple syrup. I also like to use just oats, nuts, and seeds since they have more protein and fiber.
Here is a quick and easy recipe to make your own granola. It’s great for sharing with diabetic patients or anyone who wants to limit their sugar intake.
EASY LOW-SUGAR GRANOLA RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
1 tablespoon maple syrup
2 tablespoons coconut oil
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1/4 cup raw pumpkin seeds
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 300F
Combine maple syrup, coconut oil, and vanilla extract in large bowl.
Add oats, salt, almonds and pumpkin seeds and mix it up. Using your hands to mix it will melt the coconut oil if it is solid.
Spread in a thin layer on a baking sheet and bake for around 12 minutes until lightly toasted. Keep your eye on it, as it can burn easily.
Cool for 15 minutes before serving or storing (in an airtight container).
